What UK employers look for

UK employers want evidence that you can work with clients, understand property transactions, and communicate clearly. They look for formal education or professional memberships, relevant coursework or internships, trackable results, and a professional presentation.

CV layout and file format

Use a clean, single-column layout with consistent fonts and spacing to make your CV easy to scan. Save and send your CV as a PDF unless the job posting asks for another format, and name the file with your name and role, for example Jane-Doe-Estate-Agent-CV.pdf.

Header and contact information

Place your full name at the top in a slightly larger font, followed by town and country, mobile number, and a professional email address. Include a LinkedIn profile and any professional memberships (e.g.

NAEA Propertymark, RICS) if you have them. Add your right to work in the UK and, optionally, your National Insurance number.

Professional summary with an example

Write a concise professional summary of two to three lines that states your status as a licensed/registered estate agent, relevant experience, and one or two strengths in client interactions. Example: Licensed/Registered estate agent with internship experience coordinating property viewings and supporting tenancy agreements, strong client communication skills, and familiarity with Rightmove and Zoopla listings.

Work experience: Framing transferable skills

When you have limited estate agency experience, present related roles that demonstrate client service, sales, negotiation, or administrative competence. For each position, lead with what you did, then show how it mattered to clients or the team, and finish with a measurable outcome where possible.

Writing strong experience bullets

Start bullets with action verbs and be specific about your contribution. For UK CVs, tailor bullets to reflect residential or commercial property responsibilities and the needs of buyers, tenants, landlords, or investors.

Use metrics where you can, such as appointments scheduled or tenancy agreements supported.

Additional Tips

  • 1
If you have little direct estate agency experience, create a short projects section that highlights relevant coursework, a property valuation capstone, or a simulated comparable market analysis you completed. Describe the tools and methods you used so employers see transferable skills.
  • 2
Use active verbs such as coordinated, supported, prepared, researched, and negotiated to start bullets and keep sentences tight and outcome oriented. Vary verbs across bullets to avoid repetition while staying accurate about your role.
  • 3
Keep one CV tailored to residential estate agency roles and another for commercial property roles if you plan to apply to both fields, and update the skills and example bullets to reflect the different buyer or tenant concerns and transaction scales.
