What a strong carpenter CV in the UK includes

A clear header, a concise personal profile, a key skills list, a work history with achievements, and education plus relevant qualifications. Each part should show the tools you use, the types of projects you build, and the safety or quality standards you follow.

Organise information so a hiring manager or foreman can scan your CV in 10 to 20 seconds. Use consistent formatting and place the most relevant experience or certifications near the top.

If you are applying to NHS facilities or healthcare settings, tailor terminology and reference relevant pay bands when appropriate. Include right-to-work status and, if possible, your National Insurance status.

UK spelling is used: organise, analyse, colour, centre, programme.

Carpenter CV example: Header and personal profile

Your header should include your full name, town and postcode, UK mobile number, and email. If you work seasonally or travel for work, add a line for availability or ability to travel, and a link to a portfolio or photos of finished work when possible.

In the personal profile (two to three sentences) highlight experience type, trade specialisms, and what you bring to a crew or project. Use active language and focus on outcomes, for example finish carpentry, framing, cabinet installation, or bespoke millwork.

If you work in healthcare facilities, mention relevant safety and infection-control experience and the ability to work to NHS-style procedures.

Carpenter CV example: Sample header and profile

Sample header: Jane Smith, Manchester M1 1AA; 07700 900123; jane@email.co.uk; portfolio link. This line is followed by a short profile that sets the tone for the CV.

Sample profile: Finish carpenter with eight years of commercial and residential experience focused on trim, cabinet installation, and bespoke millwork. Reliable on-site team member with strong blueprint reading skills and a focus on meeting specifications and schedules.

If you hold a CSCS card or other UK qualifications, mention them here.

Experience section: How to write entries

List roles in reverse chronological order and include job title, employer, city, and employment dates in DD/MM/YYYY format. For each role write two to three achievement-based bullet points that describe what you did, the tools or materials used, and the outcome for the project or client.

Start statements with a past-tense action verb and avoid vague duties. Emphasise scope of work, such as types of builds, team size, or kinds of materials, so a UK employer understands your fit for their projects.

If relevant, note safety training (e.g. CSCS, IPAF) and any supervisory responsibilities.
